Announcing the release of Analytica 5.1!
We are excited to announce that Analytica 5.1 is now available. Our biggest focus for this release was speeding up calculations time; more operations and functions run faster and take advantage of parallel processing. On the lighter side of things, we have added a Blackjack example model implemented entirely in Analytica in the Fun and Games folder!
Read about all of the improvements and additions on our What's new in Analytica 5.1 page.
Max Henrion talks value of optionality at Energy, Utility, and Environment conference
Max Henrion delivered a talk entitled "The Value of Optionality in Deploying Grid Storage" at the 2018 Energy, Utility, and Environment Conference in San Diego, CA. The talk, co-authored with Kim Mullins, used the Puente natural gas plant (NG) versus energy storage system (ESS) comparison performed by CAISO as a case study to explore how changing dynamics in the energy storage market affect the decision to build a natural gas peaker plant or a similarly sized energy storage system. For a fair comparison between systems, including capital and operational costs and revenues, the study uses EPRI's StorageVET (Storage Value Estimation Tool), and find that increasing price volatility and decreasing battery storage costs will favor the ESS, while decreasing natural gas and/or rising and stable electricity prices will tend to favor the NG plant.

Lumina welcomes Kimberley Mullins
The Lumina team welcomes Kimberley Mullins, PhD, the latest addition to our consulting team. Kim has extensive experience in risk and lifecycle analysis of energy and agricultural systems. Most recently, she was a postdoc at the University of Minnesota, where she worked on understanding distributed energy resources deployment among rural and municipal electric utilities. Kim has a PhD from Carnegie Mellon, jointly from the Departments of Engineering & Public Policy and Civil & Environmental Engineering, where she investigated life-cycle environmental impacts and supply risks of biofuels. After growing up in Toronto and living in Minneapolis - and hearing about this year’s winter storms - she is enjoying the winter (spring?) weather in the Bay Area!

Redesigned Analytica wiki
We have totally redesigned the Analytica wiki with a clean new look:
- A smarter search box, new home page, Functions by category, and Modeling Guide make it much easier to find what you want.
- All the PDF docs, including Tutorial, User Guide, Optimizer Guide, and ADE Guide are now on the wiki, so you need search only in one place.
- You can open a wiki page explanation of any function from inside Analytica – select the function name, right-click, and select Wiki help.
- As before, it’s powered by Mediawiki, the same engine that powers Wikipedia. So you can add comments, tips, and example models for the whole Analytica community.
- A new WYZIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) Visual editor lets you add content without having to learn the wikitext format.
